Assignment 5 allowed me to learn a series of new skills on PowerPoint. I really liked learning about the navigation buttons, as well as the nonlinear navigation, since these are skills I had never tried before. In addition, playing with the different animations and sound effects made my presentation a lot more entertaining. There was nothing in particular I disliked about this assignment, and the in-class demonstration made it easy to accomplish. For next time, I would try to make a more colorful presentation as I think I made mine too monotonous for young children. In previous psychology classes I’ve taken I covered how useful data collection tools are when researching a topic of interest. I imagine teachers can use these tools as a way to receive feedback from parents and students to understand how lectures can be improved. Ideally, the surveys will be anonymous to prevent responses from being limited due to being scared of being honest. In my future career as a psychologist data col...

During most of my school years, I did not experience any form of distance learning. When the pandemic arrived, even though it was a struggle for teachers and students to adapt to the changes, we started distance learning through Zoom. Zoom and Microsoft Teams were the most used platforms by my teachers, and they were very effective and user-friendly. Some resources I have used in college but that would have been useful during high school are pre-recorded lectures. Sometimes, it was hard for us to keep up with the teachers in class, and it would have been great if we had videos to rewatch when we had doubts.   Open educational resources are resources that are publicly available and can be accessed for teaching and learning. I was curious to see what kind of OERs there are for teaching psychology and I found a lecture outline that briefly covers various areas of contemporary psychology. It explains the biology behind the nervous system in the area of biopsychology, it describes Piage...

The Web Design assignment helped me master the skill of following the CRAP design principle, which I used when designing my website. I ensured the letters had a proper contrast with the background and repeated the same font and font size throughout the website.  For example, since I wanted to use colorful images, I used black letters to make sure they were readable. I really like the creative freedom we had when creating our websites since I enjoyed having a chance to research how teachers teach psychology to young students. Creating a website is a great skill to have as a psychologist since it can be used to share with patients the working policies and how they can make an appointment. QR codes are a convenient way to shorten URL links, which is why they have become very popular nowadays.  A creative way teachers can use QR codes in the classroom is by using them for a scavenger hunt activity. As a fun in-class activity, I can group students and create 4 different QR codes, e...

As I didn’t attend school in the US, I was surprised to see how class pages can be accessed by the public. I entered the website of Chiles High School, and the class pages published by a Spanish teacher caught my attention. She designed a website where she included relevant information about her methodology as a teacher. One thing that stood out to me was seeing how she created a Quizlet with important terms for students to review for her exams. She also included a schedule of the hours when she is available during the weekdays to tutor students who may need additional help to understand the topics. https://www.leonschools.net/Page/35429 Even though I don’t aspire to be a teacher in the future, various technology tools we have learned to use in class could be beneficial as a psychologist. Google Calendar is a great tool for keeping track of meetings with clients. In addition, Microsoft Word would be useful for writing informational newsletters to spread awareness of mental health issue...

I have really enjoyed the blogging experience. I like the concept of being able to share my opinions and experiences for others to learn from them. I have also enjoyed the process of decorating my blog. However, one thing that I have not been loving is the website Blogger. There are not as many resources for decorating my blogs as I would like to,  but it is a good option for getting started.  During this process, I have learned that having a blog is a great way to express what we know about our topics of interest, and by sharing these ideas, we can find others who have similar interests. I had never considered how practical generative AI can be for teachers. I was surprised to see that Chat GPT can create worksheets in a format ready to download and print out. In order to get a properly detailed lesson plan, I went back and forth with the chat multiple times to add my feedback and specify what type of information I wanted the chat to add. I noticed that by using this strateg...

As it has been widely discussed, artificial intelligence comes with a series of pros and cons. Since the use of generative AI is relatively new, at first, I had a hesitant perspective, especially because  AI can cause students to engage in dishonest actions, like cheating. However, I do think that it is more beneficial to teach students how to properly use AI as it is undoubtedly a great tool to use nowadays. In addition, I believe this is something that must be taught when students are between 7th and 12th grade. When I was in high school, I really didn’t use social media platforms for educational purposes. When I started my psychology courses at college, I was so motivated to learn everything I could that I started using Instagram and TikTok to follow psychologists who shared their experiences and educational videos. However, I never really interacted with the creators. These platforms can be helpful for my career because they make it easier to find a professional working ...

One digital standard that caught my attention is the ELA.8.C.5.2. This standard explains the importance of learning how to use a variety of digital tools that make it easier to collaborate with others when producing written material. With my current skill set, I do feel prepared to implement this standard with my students. I have experience using online tools like Google Docs, which are extremely helpful when simultaneously working with a group to write an article, paper, or any other written product. If my students face difficulties, I would be able to answer their questions and guide them through the learning process. As a psychology student, I was intrigued by reading the standards set for this subject. Even though the standards were very specific and diverse, one thing I noticed was the lack of resources listed for most of the standards. Out of the first 20 standards that appeared, only one had listed resources, SS.912.P.2.2 (describe and compare a variety of quantitative and...
