Assignment 5 allowed me to learn a series of new skills on PowerPoint. I really liked learning about the navigation buttons, as well as the nonlinear navigation, since these are skills I had never tried before. In addition, playing with the different animations and sound effects made my presentation a lot more entertaining. There was nothing in particular I disliked about this assignment, and the in-class demonstration made it easy to accomplish. For next time, I would try to make a more colorful presentation as I think I made mine too monotonous for young children.
In previous psychology classes I’ve taken I covered how useful data collection tools are when researching a topic of interest. I imagine teachers can use these tools as a way to receive feedback from parents and students to understand how lectures can be improved. Ideally, the surveys will be anonymous to prevent responses from being limited due to being scared of being honest. In my future career as a psychologist data collection tools can be used for a similar purpose, to collect feedback from patients. In addition, these tools are also useful to collect data on the progress of patients to see what kinds of interventions and treatments are more effective.
A technology-related skill I would love to learn is video editing. An advantage of the increased use of social media is that we can upload entertaining videos that convey an important message to millions of people. However, the attention span is increasingly shorter, and videos have to have more complex editing to gain people’s attention. A specific goal will be to learn how to do dynamic captions on my videos. It is measurable as the end result will help me assess my performance. It is both achievable and relevant as I have some basic editing skills and it’s a skill with a high demand. Lastly, I would like to achieve this goal in 1 month. To accomplish this goal I would first educate myself by reading articles and watching videos to learn the best techniques and apps. Afterward, I will focus on practicing until I’m satisfied with the end result.
