Microsoft Word is a tool I have used multiple times as a student. While in middle school, we learned how to use the software as part of our technology class and the skill has been useful ever since. In high school, I had multiple assignments that required MS, including writing essays and making content summaries. It also has been a great tool for writing my class notes during college. I still use it very frequently for my college assignments, but I do sometimes prefer Google Docs as their format is a lot more friendly. I have also had times where the grammar check setting on MS turns off so I end up moving to Google Docs to finish assignments.

The most meaningful ISTE standard for me is 2.2 Leader. I have always believed that educators have a big responsibility as they directly influence their students' lives. Growing up, I had multiple teachers who only cared about following the curriculum and had little to no interest in our success. If educators act like leaders within the classroom, they will not only properly teach depending on their student’s needs but also empower them in the process. I also really liked how this standard includes advocating for equitable access, as this is something we really need in Latin American countries. In Panama, the gap between public and private schools is constantly increasing, and teachers can help change this situation by creating awareness of the conditions they currently have in public schools.

Even though I understand why the term digital native emerged, I believe this is one of those cases where labels are not necessary, as there are a lot of exceptions.  Being a digital native means you were raised in an environment where technology was present hence, you feel comfortable using it. One difference I noticed between my high school teachers, who were digital immigrants, and me, is that many of them were apprehensive about allowing technology in the classroom as they believed it would bring more disadvantages than advantages. My classmates and I knew that another influencing factor was that they were so used to not using technology when working that it would take them longer to plan activities and check assignments than usual. This impacted my learning experience as, once again, they were prioritizing them over us, which makes learning feel more like a burden than a privilege. One difference I anticipate between me and my future students is that I would want to have a balance between activities that involve technology and activities that don't, whereas they will only want to use technology in the classroom.
